English Civil War Society – Lord Hopton’s Regiment of Foote
Lord Hopton’s Regiment is one of seven Royalist regiments that regularly take to the field of battle under the umbrella organisation the English Civil War Society Society which encompasses both the Kings Army and the Roundhead Association.
A re-enactment group portraying battles, sieges and living history from all aspects of war-torn 17th century Britain, at Wimborne History Festival Lord Hopton’s Regiment will be re-enacting skirmishes, smaller military engagements, with particular reference to local, Wimborne, encounters. The group will also be establishing an encampment with reproduction artefacts from the 17th century and will play out scenes of life in that period, interwoven with battlefield action.
The regiment will also be hosting a crime and punishment exhibition in the Cornmarket in central Wimborne with authentic replica instruments and equipment – passing visitors beware in case you are branded a thief or a harlot!
