Legio Secunda Augusta
Legio Secunda Augusta, or as the Roman’s would have had it, Legio Secvnda Avgvsta, was one of four legions that took part in the AD43 invasion of Britannia. The legion established a vexillation fort (an ancient distribution centre) on the site at Lake Gates near Wimborne Minster, where they were stationed for around two years.
Since it was established over 20 years ago Legio Secunda Augusta’s military and civilian display sections have gone from strength to strength to become one of Europe’s pre-eminant Roman Living History groups.
Legio Secunda Augusta covers the 1st and 2nd century AD from circa 43AD onwards. Their display encompasses the full range of Roman military and civilian life, so pop along and meet and talk to legionaries, officers, a military doctor, a midwife, citizens of Rome, gladiators and slaves – an unforgettable living history experience.
