Alex Burghart will be talking about the lives of some of the men commemorated on the Wimborne Minster War Memorial and looking at the hundreds of thousands of women who were left behind – the so-called Surplus Women – whose experiences came to shape the rest of the twentieth century.
Alex Burghart was born and raised in Wimborne before going on to teach history at King’s College London. In 2016 he gave a talk at the Wimborne History Festival on ‘Alfred the Great and Wimborne’. He is now the Member of Parliament for Brentwood and Ongar in Essex.
