With a Bang or a Whimper? How Life Went on, 1919 Dorset.
With Maria Gayton of Dorset History Centre
Wednesday 18th July, 2pm @ Allendale House (East Dorset Heritage Trust)
Tickets £5, to include refreshments
There is a constant inter-play between national and international events and the discoveries we can make in Dorset’s records. The First World War was a catalyst for social change and the aftermath of the conflict impacted both rural and urban life in the County. These changes are documented in every kind of record- from farm sales particulars to asylum reports. Come along to hear more of the stories that emerge from these records, and to reflect on how our lives now were shaped by our ancestors’ responses to challenge and trauma.
Maria has worked as a counsellor and teacher, and is now the Community Engagement Officer at the Dorset History Centre. She has lived in Dorchester for 20 years and believes that our County’s history is as rich and revealing as any.
